The ULB Liaison Office within the ULB Research Department is acting as a proxy supporting researchers along the entire lifecycle of their research projects and taking the role of an intermediary between research teams & funding agencies, national contact points, and other university services. The Liaison Office team works closely with ULB researchers to transform their ideas into funded projects. The ULB Liaison Office has a considerable experience with European funding programmes, being involved in about 340 projects financed by the 7th European Framework Programme (FP7), Horizon 2020 (H2020) and Horizon Europe (HE).

Mission Description

ULB - EU Liaison Office (Cellule Europe) is looking for a collaborator who will contribute to the international outreach of ULB by stimulating research and by assisting research teams in submitting applications to the European Commission and managing funded projects (Horizon Europe framework programme, among others). The person hired will have to:

  • Assist in the setting up of European and international projects by providing scientific support (proofreading of projects, giving advice on the directions to take, ensuring that European priorities such as strategic aspects, impact, gender and open science are properly integrated) and administrative support (eligibility, portal, institutional information and letters, budget, team, …).
  • Participate in the management of funded projects: contractualization, legal aspects, budget, recruitments, and reporting to funding agencies, which requires coordination with other departments of the administration and or services, such as the financial department, human resources, infrastructure, the IT department, ...).
  • Support valorization and exploitation of the results obtained by the European and internationally funded projects, which requires collaboration with the ULB KTO.
  • Identify the ULB research units likely to respond to European and international calls for projects and to ensure permanent communication with these research teams.
  • Encourage ULB researchers to submit European proposals.
  • Help researchers to form and integrate international consortia (identification of academic and non-academic partners, visibility of internal expertise, etc).
  • Ensure a permanent monitoring of European (in particular Horizon Europe) and international programmes and to understand the synergies between the different European funding opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain regular contacts with the interlocutors of the European framework programme (National Contact Points) as well as with European institutions and international organizations.
  • Increase the visibility of the projects: support the development of a dissemination and communication strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with the rules and procedures specific to European programmes.
  • Represent the University at inter-university or European meetings related to European or international research projects.
  • Organize conferences and events related to European programmes.

Candidate profile

  • Doctorate (PhD) in “Social Sciences and Humanities”
  • Training in Social Sciences and Humanities
  • Persons with a diploma not issued by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation or the Flemish Community must obtain an equivalence by the FWB (http://www.equivalences.cfwb.be/index.php?id=486)

Skills and knowledge required:

  • Knowledge of communication and networking activities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office software.
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken French and English.
  • Good knowledge of the functioning of academic institutions.

Soft skills related to the position:

  • Knowledge of the European Commission's strategy and priorities; knowledge of the European Commission's funding programmes.
  • Experience in submitting applications to European calls and managing funded projects is a plus
