EsoBiotec is a newly formed Biotech startup company focused on developing innovative gene therapies for high unmet medical needs. Our goal is to develop the next generation of cancer treatments to offer previously unattainable options to the largest possible number of patients. Today, EsoBiotec is seeking an experienced and highly motivated cell and molecular biologist with a solid track record designing, producing and testing viral vectors. The successful candidate will be supporting the company’s efforts to develop and bring to the clinic the first gene therapy product targeting T cells for the treatment of cancer. This is highly innovative and exciting work that will require dedication, flexibility in facing novel challenges, creative thinking, a strong independent research output and a positive collaborative mindset. This full-time position is located at the Brussels South Charleroi Biopark in Gosselies, Belgium with frequent and regular interaction with the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in Brussels.

Mission Description


  • Plan and execute research development studies for the establishment and advancement of the product pipeline at EsoBiotec
  • Design and generate lentiviral constructs using standard cloning techniques
  • Produce lentiviral vectors from established and newly generated packaging cell lines
  • Evaluate candidate lentiviral vectors in immune assays using cell lines and primary cells
  • Contribute to design of engineered lentiviral vectors for desired functionality
  • Execute research timelines to meet program and corporate objectives

Candidate profile

  • B.S./M.S. or PhD degree in Molecular and/or Cell Biology, Immunology or other related fields and have minimum 3 years of laboratory experience if B.S/M.S.
  • Strong molecular cloning and mammalian cell culture experience
  • Skilled with lentiviral (or other viral vector) design and production
  • Detailed knowledge and practice of cellular characterization assays using techniques including multiple parameter flow cytometry, ELISA and qPCR is preferred
  • Experience with the latest gene editing techniques and in vivo/in vitro disease modeling is preferred
  • Excellent organization and data analysis skills are a must
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities while meeting project objectives on schedule
  • Should be self-motivated, detail oriented, flexible, and have a “do-what-it-takes” attitude
  • Good communication skills in English. French and/or Dutch is a plus.
